Last week, Jonathan Rudd, president of Canadian geophysical company Dias Geophysical, visited Kazakhstan. Dias Geophysical is a long-term partner of Aurora Minerals Group in Kazakhstan, and provides advanced technological solutions in the geophysical exploration of mineral resources. Dias Geophysical is the technology leader in the global market for ground-based electrical exploration. Aurora, together with Dias, successfully completed several ground-based induced polarization and resistivity surveys using the unique DIAS32 technology. This technology allows for much more detailed data and maps up to twice the depth of traditional methods of ground-based electrical exploration.

During Mr.Rudd’s visit, Aurora and Dias discussed the prospects for further cooperation in the exploration market in Kazakhstan, and held a number of business meetings with potential customers, where the latest technological developments of Dias Geophysical were presented.

One of them is the QMAG system, a helicopter-borne surveying system used for complex magnetic surveys. A SQUID sensor (superconducting quantum interference device) allows this system to measure all components of the magnetic field gradient, which in turn gives vital information about the location, size, and direction of the magnetic sources in the earth. This directional information is not available from total field sensors, which have been the industry standard for many years.

New DIAS32 receivers capable of acquiring magnetotelluric (MT) data were also presented. And Dias’s new proprietary transmitters which are best in class in terms of power to weight ratio: with a weight of just over 30 kg, the GS5000 transmitter provides 25 kW of power at up to 5,000 Volts.

Dias Geophysical and Aurora are encouraged by the response from the mineral exploration market to these technologies, and look forward to strengthening our collaboration to the benefit of our clients.
